Silkwood Stud began under the name of Waverly Stud in 1977 when Janne Wilson purchased her first foudation mare, Spring Song Of Waverly. Before being retired to stud, 'Tamie' was shown with great success before producing an exeptional filly to the legendary imported sire, Keston Royal Occasion. This filly, Waverly Festivity foaled in 1983 and went on to an illustious career claiming Champion Ridden Riding Pony titles at Adelaide, Melbourne & Sydney Royals. In 1992 Waverly Festivity was also named National POTY.
The prefix 'Waverly' was changed to 'Silkwood' before Spring Song Of Waverly's second foal was born, Silkwood Jeni-wren (also by Keston Roal Occasion).Tamie continued to produce exceptional stock for Silkwood Stud, namely; Silkwood Acushla. Spring Song of Waverly was then sold to Peter & Robyn Barry of Mirinda stud where she continued to produce champions by Keston Royal Occasion.
It was in 1982 that Janne purchased Rotherwood Windswept from breeder, Liz Mansfield (UK) with the intention to build an impressive breeding program. Sired by Solway North Wind from Rotherwood Peep Show, making him a full brother to Rotherwood Acrobat (Imp). The above named ponies all had a dramatic influence on Riding Pony Breeding programs in Australia.

In 1983 another monumental decision was made for the stud when Solway Springtime sired by Wingrove Minkino was
purchased after arriving at foot with her mother, Solway Magnolia. When crossed with Janne's imported stallion Rotherwood Windswept sires of the future were bred; Silkwood Babbling Brook and Silkwood Chalkstream along with a filly, Silkwood Spring Thyme (who went on to produce beautiful ponies for Astral Stud). When crossed with Carolinas Cat's Whiskers Solway Springtime also produced another colt, Silkwood Puss 'n' Boots.

For many years Silkwood Stud was located in South Australia. With foals born every two years the emphasis was on quality as opposed to quantity. During this time the stud bred many royal show champions and H.O.T.Y winners. After a friendship was formed between Janne Wilson and Carole Lindeman the Silkwood Stud later relocated to to the Barrabool Hills in Victoria where it currently resides. In partnership, Silkwood Stud continues to produce exceptional saddle and led ponies and galloways. Pictured above: Silkwood Slip Stream. The studs most recent Royal champions and HOTY winners include: Silkwood Renaissance, Silkwood Slip Stream, Silkwood Heaven Can Wait, Silkwood Septemper Rain, Silkwood Fanfare, Silkwood Nutkin, Silkwood Ocean So Fair, Silkwood Angel Wings and Silkwood Heaven's Chalice. (see photo gallery). Another exciting dimension was added to Silkwood story with Janne Wilson's grand-daughter Millie Hooper showed a strong love of ponies. Millie rode Silkwood Golden Ties in leading rein combination to Mini Champion, Geelong royal and 1st & reserve mini at the Riding Pony Classic. Millie also travelled to compete with the Drexel family, W.A (home of many Silkwood champions) where she won her rider at Perth Royal 2007.
