NEWS 2009

October 2009

The foaling season is well and truly underway here at Silkwood Stud, with 4 exceptional foals now gracing the paddocks.
Posh Spice of Astral (Strinesdale Matador (UK) x Chippenham Prim) is a full sister to Silkwood Stud's own well performed Prima Donna of Astral. Purchased only last year, Posh was the first mare to foal and produced a stunning colt by resident sire Jackets Bluebird (IMP). To be named Silkwood Romeo this colt is exceptional and one we are all very happy with!
A half sister to this mare, Lal's Haven Majestic Dreams (Fairley Rembrandt (UK) x Chippenham Prim) followed soon after and this maiden mare produced a very typey colt. This little guy, also by Jackets Bluebird (IMP), should stay little and although small in stature he is certainly full of quality.
The third foal off the rank was also a colt! This one chestnut however and with a very flashy face marking and plenty of white on the legs, it seems a throwback to Jackets Bluebird's dam, Jackets Valcelebrita. He is out of Silkwood Satin Ribbons who has been a great producer for the stud.
Finally a filly arrived for '09!! - this one by Deanhills Benjamin (IMP) from the Ninfield Minks Supreme (UK) mare Silkwood Supremacy. Another chestnut, and like last years full sister, will mature galloway.

In other news at the Stud, the team looks forward to showing some youngstock in hand again this season. Although time is limited the yearling colt Silkwood Supernova (Deanhills Benjamin (IMP) x Silkwood Belladonna) will make an appearance, firstly at Geelong Royal, and then at other selected shows. Offered for sale, Rocky comes with outstanding pedigree - we look forward to seeing this quality young colt in the showring in coming weeks.
Geelong Royal will also see the showring debut for the studs 3yo, Silkwood Ribbons (Deanhills Benjamin (IMP) x Silkwood Satin Ribbons). This filly is coming along very well, and will certainly achieve success much like her full sister Silkwood Nutkin, (SA Newcomer POTY) owned by the Frickers. A lovely moving, stunning small pony, she is also offered to a competitive show home.

Silkwood Stud is always interested to hear the latest news of stock bred by the Stud, and thanks go to those who do send regular updates and share stories with us.
An update from Queensland is that Silkwood Fanfare (Fairley Tempest (IMP) x Silkwood Sweet Dreams) is currently being offered for sale. Previously campaigned by Nicci Jamieson to win EFA Large POTY, Squirt is now owned by the Titmarsh Family who have also had great success, including 2009 Central Queensland Hack Council Large POTY. Please email carole@silkwoodstud.com for contact details of the owners.

With a number of quality foals on the ground by resident sire Jackets Bluebird (IMP) and the wonderful sire of 12.2hh ponies Deanhills Benjamin (IMP), Silkwood Stud offers some of these to discerning show homes. There are also a number of rising 3yo's with quality, temperament and movement ready to be broken and shown in the coming season. All of these youngstock are out of well bred mares who can be viewed on the Broodmare page. Ponies listed for sale can be found on the For Sale page.

In show news regarding Silkwood Stud stock, the impressive young galloway Silkwood Sublime has made his show debut in Western Australia with the Bowden Family. Junior is a three-quarter brother to the exceptionally successful Silkwood Slip Stream and possesses many of the fantastic qualities of his National winning sibling. Silkwood Stud and Michelle and Jacqui Bowden look forward to seeing this horse go from strength to strength.

The Bowden Family have also been successful with another lovely young Silkwood bred pony. Silkwood Riverside is a flashy, big moving young gelding and has the most wonderful temperament. We look forward to hearing more about Gill's successes.

Silkwood Little Heaven is another promising young pony and is being shown in the capable hands of Jodee Hadley in WA. Chicky is proving a wonderful pony and we look forward to her Newcomer results in the coming weeks.

Silkwood Stud itself has been showing two of their promising young weanlings at recent foal shows in Victoria. Silkwood Fairytale and Silkwood Supernova have been doing the stud proud. Results and photos can be found on the Show Team 2009 page.

As we finish weaning the young foals it won't be long before the next crop are gracing the paddocks. Visitors are always welcome by appointment and we hope we can assist you in joining the winners circle.

Carole's contact details can be found on the contact page. A reminder too that by including your email address on the guestbook we are able to notify you of the latest news.

Silkwood Stud wishes you all the very best in your preparations for the coming show season.
